* OMWB - A VERY Late Update

I figured as I hadn't uploaded anything for nearly a year, I'd best update you on some of the goings-on. I've been busy with a lot of other projects, so some of the ones OMWB last year are still either the same, or not much more advanced. I took this set of photos and the colours were all wrong. I've edited them as best as i can, but they'll benefit from new photos when i can actually be bothered :o)

Locos - Class 35

Currently there's only one loco in this section and even that's a bit of a flight of fancy! 35017 aka D7017 was, in the early '90s painted into the ficticious (for the class) Grey & Yellow "Dutch" colour scheme and named after it's home depot "Williton" on the West Somerset Railway. After aquiring a rather tatty Heljan example, it was stripped and resprayed this livery as frankly, i think it rather suited them!

Well, it seems to be the done thing, and frankly a lot of mates have been asking about the status of current projects. I've taken a bit of a break from the modelling of late, so a couple have just been sat on the shelf gathering dust, but hopefully will be finished soon! Here's some sneak peeks at what's coming up On My WorkBench!

This loco was in fact one of my very first respray/detail jobs, but It just wasn't up to my modern standards. It's the first of my fleet to have undergone a "full refurb", whereby I stripped the loco back to bare shell, re-detailed the fronts & the roof, and then resprayed it." />

It's amazing how "stripped out" these 47s can look until they're detailed. It was stripped back to basic livery elements hence the Identity change." />

I've a bunch of Parkside "Clams" that just need painting. As anyone who's ever tried to spray any of these will know, "difficult" isn't *quite* the right word when masking them for spraying correctly into CE "Dutch" livery. An ongoing project, I think I may have solved th problem, but watch this space!" />

Locos - Class 60

Currently Stepaside boasts only 2 Class 60s, and one's not mine!
PAH's 60039 is a highly detailed Lima model started not long before Hornby announced their offering. Little were we to know how stunning that was going to be!
However, Model spec is:
Etched side grilles (Shawplan), along with the interior detailing pack of the same make. Modified front end between the light clusters (fitted with Express Models LED Lighting) Seperate Airhorns with GPS Aerial and mount fitted correct end, Scratchbuilt bogie steps, modified front "snowplough", Hornby class 50 cosmetic front coupling, and Lima class 67 tension lock coupling on the rear. Currently fitted with one of the shocking (in my opinion) modeltorque motors, the mechanism is shortly to be replaced with a Hornby flywheel drive mech.
A more recent purchase has been Hornby 60078 in Mainline Blue which has had it's roof resprayed the correct colour (Executive Dark Grey - Not Black), It's in the process of being weathered, and once done photos will be posted here.
So, Current 60 fleet looks like:

60011 - Mainline Blue - Hornby
60039 - EWS Maroon - Superdetailed Lima

Locos - Class 73

My Class 73 fleet is currently undergoing changes.
I've got several, but they were bought before a reasonably priced decent motor was available. Through some research and several friends, I've found that if re-wheeled and stretched, the Bachmann class 24/25 chassis is a very good exchange for the Lima "pancake". Currently only 73134 has this fitted, but I'm hoping the others will follow. Whilst I was remotoring, I took the opertunity to detail the front ends using seperate handrails, Replica sealed beam headlights, Improved airhorns, Shawplan "T" roof Aerials, and MJT high level hoses. The locos will also be LED lit and fitted with Flushglazing.

Current 73s are:

73101 - "The Royal Alex" - Pullman Umber/Cream
73119 - "Kentish Mercury" - Civil Engineers "Dutch"
73129 - "City of Winchester" - Network Southeast
73134 - "Woking Homes 1885 - 1985" - InterCity Executive
73212 - "Airtour Suisse" - Gatwick Express

I'm not really sure which loco shall undergo remotoring next. The preferred candidates are 101 and 129. Again, just a case of "watch this space"!!!

Locos - Class 56

Stepaside currently has 3 class 56s to it's name:

56004 - BR Blue
56044 - "Cardiff Canton Quality Assured" - Transrail
56063 - "Bardon Hill"

All are the old Mainline model resprayed. 56044 was one of my first detailing projects, and *almost* stands up to todays detailing standards. It's currently fitted with the A1 class 56 detailing pack, along with modified bufferbeam area.
56063 was a dodgy body when bought, and the respray never really did it much justice. Only the front horn grilles and headlight surrounds have been changed on this loco.
56004 is pretty much just renumbered.

Lastly there is a class 56 currently on my workbench. This I haven't yet really decided what livery to spray it in, however it's a certainty it'll recieve full Shawplan etched grilles & detailing before fitting of a Hornby flywheel drive mech.

OK, I couldn't hold out long! I bought a Heljan 33065 Sealion at the Calne model show. It was possibly home for about 15 minutes before the numbers started to be removed and it became 33025 "Sultan" - one fo my favourite /0s from days gone by. Seen here with it's current stablemate - PAH's 33035 in NSE colours awaiting detail & nameplates etc. (basically his - thats how they come out the box.) 33025 has had all the bufferbeam fittings painted, and the radio roof pods thinned from underneath, as although a rather nice mould, they do appear a little chunky from the box. Next task on both was to paint the solebars to the correct colour before weathering.

3 Pictures shown here while I was experimenting with what to do with my 2 platform Branch terminus (Stepaside South). The 2 platforms are currently layed using unmodified Hornby units, which will be detailed & painted to form something more platform-like in due course. This is one of the next areas of the layout to be worked on. Eventually I hope to add a small footpath in the scenic section, down oast the stabling sidings to the depot which of course will be "bunk-friendly", and to add a small car park next to the station building.

Locos - Class 57

Right, Class 57s..
First came 57012. This loco is a detailed, chopped & partly resprayed Lima example which was formerly a 47193. Once upon a time, there was a partner for this in the 57 stable - 57601 A Hornby body on a Lima chassis detailed using the Shawplan kit, then resprayed into it's Porterbrook purple livery. However, I was never quite happy with the paint finish or the Lima running qualities, so after hearing that Heljan were bringing a 57/6 out I looked into the possibilities of buying one and modifying that, so along came 57602 which should eventually become 57604 "Pendennis Castle". Now before I could get my hands on another 57/6 and the associated bits, Bachmann announced they were to be releasing 57601 as a collectors club loco. This was duly purchased, weathered, and is now resident on the layout. The last 57 to arrive has been another superb Bachmann example - 57008 "Freightliner Explorer" which has become 57002 "Freightliner Phoenix" to suit the nameplate position.
So, 57s are:

57002 - "Freightliner Phoenix" - Freightliner Green - Bachmann
57012 - "Freightliner Envoy" - Freightliner Green - Detailed Lima
57601 - Porterbrook silver/purple - Bachmann
57602 - fGW Green - Heljan

Although Stepaside isn't catenary equipped, it does have some electrics that put in an appearance being towed to open days maybe..
All 86s are superdetailed Hornby examples however still run with their original motors.

Currently the class 86 fleet consists of:

86417 - Rail Express Systems
86430 - Freightliner Green
86605 - Freightliner Grey
86609 - Freightliner Green
86633 - Freightliner Grey

Along with 86261 in EWS maroon currently in works for a complete re-detailing & respray, 86210 "CIT 75th Anniversary" in Rail Express Systems undergoing detailing and 2 others awaiting further plans.. another case of watch this space!

22.04.06 - 210 & 261 are nearly there!

The currently finished class 67 fleet consists of 3 Lima 67s:

67002 "Special Delivery"
67025 "Western Star"
67030

All 3 carry EWS livery and have front end detailing and full LED lighting fitted.
One more is on the cards which hopefully should appear as 67006 "Royal Sovereign" in royal plum. Also putting in an appearance should be 67004 - This is currently "in works for PAH to be detailed & lit.

Locos - Class 47

My Class 47 fleet is large and varied.
A mix of Heljan & Lima grace the rails, with quite probably a few Bachmann coming when they're released.
Most of the Lima examples have been heavily detailed on the front ends, and have got the best examples of the "pancake" motor I could find fitted.
Currently we have:

47145 - "Merddin Emrys" - Tinsley "Euro" blue - Heljan
47186 - "Catcliffe Demon" - Tinsley "Euro" grey - Heljan

My Class 47 fleet is large and varied.
A mix of Heljan & Lima grace the rails, with quite probably a few Bachmann coming when they're released.
Most of the Lima examples have been heavily detailed on the front ends, and have got the best examples of the "pancake" motor I could find fitted.
Currently we have:

47145 - "Merddin Emrys" - Tinsley "Euro" blue - Heljan
47186 - "Catcliffe Demon" - Tinsley "Euro" grey - Heljan
47193 - Freightliner Green - Lima
47210 - RFD triple grey - Heljan
47245 - "The Institute of Export" - RfD "Euro" grey - Heljan
47289 - Freightliner Grey - Lima
47309 - "European Freight Operator of the Year" Freightliner grey- Lima
47484 - "Isambard Kingdom Brunel" GW150 Green - Heljan
47476 - "Night Mail" - Parcels Red/Grey - Heljan

47778 - "Irresistable" - Rail Express Systems red/grey - Heljan
47785 - "Fiona Castle" - EWS Maroon/Gold - Lima

Stepaside currently is home to 2 Class 55 "Deltics". Both examples are Bachmann, and both are renumbered from the first issues.

D9000 - "Royal Scots Grey" - BR Two Tone Green
55019 - "Royal Highland Fusilier" - BR Blue

Both are weathered and fitted with LED head & tail lights with lightstore.
I'm hoping that before not too long, I can get another to modify as 9016 in Porterbrook purple, however I'm not looking forward to fitting the Wipac clusters!!

Right, Class 37s. Ok, I love them and want as many as I can afford. In order to do this, I'm willing to forgive the early Bachmann mouldings their flaws. Yes, I know there's a Porch, Yes, I know the tumblehome is too accentuated, Yes, I know the cantail is all wrong. But at this stage in time, I don't care! They're obtainable really cheaply hence why I have so many.

Currently the fleet consists of: here goes!

Also present, on loan from PAH are:

37431 - "Bullidae" - Intercity Mainline
37667 - "Meldon Quarry Centenary" - EWS Maroon

However, Don't think it stops there! Currently on the workbench in advanced stages of conversion & respraying are:

37023 - "Stratford Major Depot" - Mainline Blue
37162 - BR General grey
37503 - EW&S Maroon
